Human rights violations and particular arrest of young activists Adnan Hajizadeh and Emin Milli in Azerbaijan were brought up at the UN plenary.
"Turan" said the report was introduced by the South Caucasus Human Rights Protection Network. The report highlights serious threats for the freedom of expression and violations of journalists' rights and liberties. It also expresses serious concern with the arrest of bloggers Adnan Hajizada and Emin Milli. The report will be discussed at the 96th session of the UN Human Rights Commission.
Along with violations of Azerbaijani citizens' rights the report also discusses government's attempts to exert pressure on Western diplomats who voice concerns over such facts. The authors of the report call on the UN to monitor these cases and urge Azerbaijani authorities to prevent occurence of such disgraceful acts such as arrest of bloggers.
On July 20 the UN Human Rights Commission will hear reports about political and civil rights situation in Azerbaijan as well as in Chad, Tanzania and Ecuador.
