Statement by US Educated Azerbaijani Alumni Association

US Educated Azerbaijani Alumni Association’s members are concerned with the detention of its member Adnan Hajizadeh on July 8, 2009. At present, Adnan is accused in acts of hooliganism according to the Article 221.2.1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

US Educated Azerbaijani Alumni Association is a public union uniting the Azerbaijani alumni of various exchange programs in the United States of America. Founded in 2003, the organization’s goal is to support the creative potential of its members, and use their knowledge and skills for the development of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Adnan is the alumnus of the FLEX Program (1999-2000) sponsored by the US Department of State. He is also the alumnus of Richmond University, USA. He is known among the members of the organization as a professional and sincere person. As the member, he has taken part in trainings, and participated in the implementation of chairty, and environmental projects, as well as other initiatives directed at the development of our country. He has shown himself as a highly educated and polite man.

We believe that the investigation will be conducted in compliance with the requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and a fair court ruling will be made.

This statement is issued based on the voting results of the US Educated Azerbaijani Alumni Association members.
