We will appeal to the European Court

Isakhan Ashurov and Elton Guliyev, the lawyers of Adnan Hajizade and Emin Milli, say that the verdict of the judge of Sabail District Rauf Akhmedov is biased and against the law. They said that they would file a complaint regarding this verdict, and if the next decision made on this case does not satisfy them, they will appeal to the European Court.

According to Iskhan Ashurov the young activists were treated inhumanly and were denied medical attention even though they needed it.

The representatives of various youth organizations declared that they will use all legal means to protest against the arrest of Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizade.

Judge Rauf Akhmendov handed down the verdict. Both Adnan Hajizade and Emin Milli were sentenced to two months in prison. During these two months the investigation will continue, after which there will be a follow up hearing.

Babek Huseynov and Vusal Mamedov, the two men who claimed that Adnan Hajizade and Emin Milli assaulted them, were recognized as victims. Neither of the men participated in the trial.
Young activists and human rights defenders who gathered infront of the court room protested by chanting slogans and singing the national anthem.

Fuad Babayev, the chief of the unit working with youth organizations within the Ministry of Youth and Sports, also participates in the court process. He said that this is a civil case. He added: “Emin Milli could both be beaten and beat someone himself. People can act differently in various situations. Therefore, it is important to wait for the court’s decision.”

The German Ambassador , after his meeting with the chairwoman of Sabail District Court Gulzer Aliyeva, expressed his disapproval of the situation. He said that “This kind of events can damage Azerbaijani-German relations, can become an issue of discussion between the two countries, and can spoil the reputation of Azerbaijan.” Gunter Nokke named these events as “political provocation.” The Ombudsman also stated his objection to the fact that the hearings of this case are not open to the public.

Due to the change of the judge presiding over this hearing, the lawyers’ appeals were not considered. Adnan Hajizade who still has bruises on his face was not allowed to meet with the Ombudsman.

Young activists Emin Milli’s and Adnan Hajizade’s trial has already begun.

Emin Milli’s lawyer, Isakhan Ashurov, told to Azadliq radio that their appeal to hold a hearing open to the public was rejected.

At the moment, the chairwoman of Sabail District Court, Gulza Rzayeva, is in the meeting with the German Ombudsman, Gunter Nokke. Human Rights defented, Leyla Yunus, is participating at the meeting as the translators for the ombudsman
