The Europa-Institut of Saarland University in Germany has sent a letter to the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Berlin. In the letter sent by the Director of the Institute, the Ambassador is asked to do his utmost to bring about the release of Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizade who were arrested in Baku on 8th July 2009.
The letter points out that during studies at the Institute, Azerbaijan is presented as a Member of the Council of Europe and the European Convention of Human Rights. However, the latest series of events surrounding the arrests of Adnan Hajizade and Emin Milli, who is known at the Institute for his peaceful engagement for democracy and human rights, would leave the Institute's alumni network and current programme participants in doubt as to Azerbaijan's commitment to uphold the pertaining obligations.
The Institute, of which Emin Milli (Abdullayev) is a graduate, has been teaching European Integration for over 25 years to students from 30 different nations resulting in an elite and international alumni network of nearly 700 alumnis.
